Fürwigge dam nature trail & walk - marvel & discover
The asphalted path around the Meinerzhagen Fürwigge dam, in the Oben an der Volme area in the Märkisches Sauerland, is approx. 4 km long and is ideal for a leisurely walk.

You can stop off at Landhaus Stottmert(www.landhaus-stottmert.de, tel. 02357/9061738), just a few minutes' drive from the dam in the direction of Herscheid.

The asphalted (walking) path in Meinerzhagen leads visitors along the Fürwigge dam and offers numerous views of the glistening surface of the water in bright sunshine. A total of 8 information boards turn the circular trail into a place of learning and experience for young and old.
You can take a break or two on one of the numerous benches or on one of the comfortable forest sofas.
The asphalted, barrier-free circular trail is ideal for a family walk for young and old, young and old, where the little ones can take their tricycle and the older ones their bike.

Directions
From the parking lot, we cross the dam wall and then keep to the right, following the silouettes of the dam. The path follows the banks of the dam before a slight ascent takes us away from the edge of the dam.This is followed by a U-turn and crossing of a small stream before we are led directly along the water again. We now circle another arm of the dam and cross another stream that feeds the dam. Continuing along the asphalt path, we circle the third arm, where a short climb awaits us. Now we continue along the dam with the dam wall again in (brief) sight.Before we reach our starting point, however, we circle the last arm of the dam, accompanied by a slight ascent and subsequent descent. Shortly before the end, we keep to the right and leave the asphalt path. After a left turn, we arrive back at the parking lot.
Equipment
Due to the firm ground and the manageable route, no special equipment is required.
Safty guidelines
First aid: In an emergency, dial the emergency number 112 and state the rescue point number. Rescue points are access points marked in the forest for rescue vehicles. If the nearest rescue point is not known, your location can be called up directly via AML (Advanced Mobile Location) during the emergency call.

Take your time for the information boards, even adults can learn a lot here.
A break on the forest sofas is rewarded with a great view.

Getting there
Coming from the south, take the A45, exit Meinerzhagen, direction Meinerzhagen center. Cross the bypass in the direction of Kierspe. In the "Neue Brücke" district, turn right towards Fürwigge-Talsperre (towards Lüdenscheid). Follow the road, keep left after the underpass and cross the next junction keeping right. After a few hairpin bends you will reach the dam.
Coming from the north, take the A45, exit Lüdenscheid-Süd, then head towards Meinerzhagen. Follow the road before turning left at a T-junction towards Fürwigge-Talsperre (towards Herscheid / Plettenberg). After a few hairpin bends you will reach the dam.

Free parking is available directly at and above the dam.
