The Berghausen family's farm, village bakery and organic store are closely interlinked. In the Berghausen village bakery, breads and rolls are made from easily digestible Viva Natur flour, supplemented by various types of cake. The baked goods are sold directly on site and are an integral part of the regional range.
The adjoining Berghausen organic store stocks a wide range of food products in accordance with current organic guidelines. Some of the products come from the farm's own organic Saalberghof farm, which won an award in the "Agriculture creates a cultural landscape" competition in 2008 and bears the official organic seal as a certified organic farm.
The organic store's range includes cheese, fruit and vegetables, home-grown potatoes, organic pasta, dairy products, organic eggs as well as ham and sausage from the farm's own production. Beef, pork, poultry and fish are available to order.
Animal husbandry on the organic Saalberghof farm is carried out according to recognized organic guidelines. Cattle are fed with home-grown organic hay, haylage, grain and potatoes and spend the months from May to November on the summer pasture. The farm has been a member of Biokreis since November 2014.
On the farm on Ihnestraße, pigs and chickens are kept on straw and have ample space to move around. Ducks and geese are kept outdoors with plenty of space to roam, grazing areas and their own swimming pond. They are mainly fed with the farm's own organic grain, potatoes and supplementary feed.
Note: As the Viva Natur flour used is not organic, pigs, chickens, ducks and geese are not formally considered organic animals. All animals are deliberately reared slowly and produce particularly high-quality meat.
