Burg Altena adventure elevator

Burg Altena, a hilltop castle in the Sauerland region, has been home to a museum since the 12th century. For a long time, the historic building was only accessible on foot. Since April 26, 2014, the Burg Altena Adventure Elevator has provided access. Since then, the adventure elevator has provided alternative access to the castle complex from the pedestrian zone. Passing through the new portal initiates a thematic introduction to past eras. Visitors are greeted by an interactive presentation featuring Count Dietrich, the lord of the castle, and Burghard the bat. A 90-meter-long tunnel leads to six interactive experience stations. These present regional legends using modern technology. One of the design elements is a transformation of the visitor's own reflection into a medieval figure. Acoustic elements at the legend stations offer the opportunity to receive the stories in full. These multimedia sequences are followed by access to the elevator. This overcomes a height difference of 80 meters in 30 seconds and is designed to be barrier-free. The legendary figures themed in the tunnel accompany visitors during the elevator ride to the castle courtyard.
