A beautiful day hike awaits you on this stage. The first section of this stage leads from Brilon town (train station) along the Brilon Kammweg past the Poppenberg towards Gudenhagen.

Here the Brilon Bürgerwald opens up with the Kyrilltor gate and finally the hiker meets the Sauerland-Waldroute here. This now takes you through various nature reserves towards Olsberg and up the Langer Berg. From here, there are great views over Olsberg and the surrounding area. The route leads past Schellenstein Castle back into the deep forests and along the small Elpe river through the village of Ostwig, where you can stop for refreshments. Finally, the stage leads up to Bergkloster Bestwig and from there to the train station. From the finish at Bestwig station, there are good train connections back to Brilon.

Information about the rescue signs on the Sauerland-Waldroute

Most hiking trails run away from towns and settlements and every hiker has thought about what would happen if an emergency were to occur. How can I be found here? Where am I anyway? Can the emergency services reach me?

In an emergency, things have to happen quickly! That's why the Sauerland-Waldroute is equipped with so-called rescue signs throughout. The green and white stickers attached to the posts of the signposts have a number that you must give when making an emergency call. This means that the emergency services know exactly where you are and valuable time can be saved.
