Moderately difficult hike
The start of your hike is at the sports field in Langscheid, your hiking sign is L1. This tour combines beautiful nature with interesting culture, an entertaining mix that is also worth experiencing for children! From the starting point, walk in the direction of Langscheid and turn left behind the sports field onto Ringstraße. Keep left and walk uphill along the stream to the right until you reach the L544 country road, which you follow for approx. 200 meters before turning left to Schloss Melschede. Attention! This road is very busy at weekends, so please take extreme care! Walk past the castle and after approx. 200 m turn right over the stream up to the edge of the forest. The reward is a beautiful view of the Mühlbach valley. The Beckum sports field is your next destination. Here you now follow the small road on the left downhill on the Sauerland-Waldroute, which leads you into the Orlebachtal nature reserve. Keeping to the right along the idyllic Orlebach stream, you will reach Schloss Wocklum after just under a kilometer. From there, you walk past the equestrian center to the oldest known blast furnace in Germany, the Luisenhütte. Here, after a good half of the route, you have the opportunity to take a break. Please enquire about opening and visiting times. The route continues over the Burgberg. As soon as you have crossed the highest point here, you can take a 200 m detour to the right up the mountain at a strong beech tree. At the summit, you can see the remains of the ramparts of an 11th century castle. Back on the main path, you continue to Mellen. On the way, you have a beautiful view of the Mühlenbach valley towards Schloss Melschede. Once you have reached the Mellen - Beckum connecting road, you will immediately leave it again in an easterly direction. You reach the foot of the Brachtenberg through meadows and fields. Turn right here and continue uphill for approx. 2 km until you reach the Krähenbrinke hut of the SGV Langscheid section. From here it is only 600 m to the starting point of your hike at the sports field.
Interesting places along the way: The baroque castle Melschede, Wasserschloß Wocklum with riding facilities. Unfortunately, both can only be visited from the outside.
