Sauerland Caves

The Sauerland Caves

Five very special caves have joined forces to form the "Sauerland Caves" cooperation as part of the 2013 Regionale in Südwestfalen. The Dechenhöhle in Iserlohn, the Heinrichshöhle in Hemer, Balver Höhle and Reckenhöhle in Balve and the Bilsteinhöhle in Warstein have set themselves the task of protecting the caves as a natural and cultural heritage site, exploring them using modern scientific methods and making them accessible to the public. The five show caves of the "Sauerland Caves" therefore offer the opportunity to bring people closer to the "natural wonder of caves" and to teach them how to use the caves responsibly. Here we can show them that cave exploration is adventure and science - and that people can only love and protect what they know!
