New guidelines ensure transparency, data protection and responsible use

Sauerland Tourism is setting an important milestone for the responsible use of digital technologies: with the publication of its own AI guideline, the association is creating clear standards for the use of artificial intelligence (AI) within the organization.

The new guideline regulates how AI-supported processes are used responsibly - from transparent communication and data protection-compliant applications to quality assurance. Decisions made with the help of AI systems should remain traceable at all times. At the same time, Sauerland Tourism takes particular care to respect the privacy of guests and partners and to process personal data only on the basis of legal requirements or explicit consent.

Artificial intelligence is seen by Sauerland Tourism as a supporting tool, for example to efficiently evaluate large amounts of data, address target groups more precisely or target campaigns more specifically. However, creative and emotional content is still reserved for human experience and direct contact with guests. "When it comes to inspiring our citizens and guests to organize their leisure time in the Sauerland, authenticity is of the highest relevance to us - AI-generated content remains the exception," the guideline states.

In addition, the local tourism association is committed to regularly checking AI systems for fairness, quality and functionality, consistently preventing misuse and continuously expanding the skills of its own employees in dealing with new technologies. "Artificial intelligence offers enormous opportunities to increase the competitiveness of our region and meet the needs of our guests even better," emphasizes Philipp Scharfenbaum, Chairman of Sauerland Tourism. "At the same time, we have a special responsibility to ensure that the use of this technology is transparent, ethical and sustainable. Our new AI guideline sets a clear framework for this and underlines our claim to further develop the Sauerland as a modern, authentic and sustainable destination," adds Managing Director Dr. Jürgen Fischbach.

With this guideline, Sauerland Tourism is positioning itself in a future-oriented way for a conscious approach to AI in German tourism - always with the aim of further developing the Sauerland brand in a credible, human and sustainable way.
