InstaHike on the Kahle-Pön nature trail

Focus on nature experience, photography and sustainable nature experience

Last Friday, numerous nature and photography enthusiasts were drawn to the Kahle Pön nature trail between Düdinghausen near Medebach and Willingen. The InstaHike, organized by Sauerland Tourism and the Sauerland Rothaargebirge Nature Park, offered participants the opportunity to capture the breathtaking landscape of the mountain heaths in the border area between Hessen and North Rhine-Westphalia in photographs, exchange ideas and learn more about the unique vegetation at the same time.

What is an InstaHike?

An InstaHike is an organized event in which a group of photography enthusiasts go hiking together in a specific location and explore exciting spots and interesting locations photographically. "InstaHikes are now a permanent fixture in our annual calendar and part of our marketing work. It's about capturing the beauty of the region from different perspectives and at the same time sensitizing participants to nature," explains Rouven Soyka, press spokesman for Sauerland Tourism.

Welcome to the mountain heaths of the Kahle-Pön

And the Kahle Pön nature trail, one of the many circular trails along the Sauerland-Höhenflug long-distance hiking trail, is the perfect location for this. It leads through a fascinating landscape that shaped the high altitudes of the low mountain range for centuries. At the end of the 19th century, the ridges of the Sauerland were still covered in mountain heaths. Today, one of the few remaining Hochheide of the Rhenish Slate Mountains can be found on the Kahle-Pön plateau, on the border between the Upland (Hessen) and the Medebach Bay (NRW). The montane berry bush heaths of the Rothaargebirge are among the last remnants of this highly endangered type of vegetation in Central Europe.

A number of other highlights awaited the participants along the way. A spectacular view over the Upland opened up at the Usseln Cross and numerous other views of the vastness of the high heath landscape were offered along the way, supplemented by the Diemel spring as a further stopover and a rest at the rustic Graf Stolberg Hütte. So there were plenty of opportunities to capture the special features along the way in photographs and

Refreshing support from the Veltins brewery

The Veltins brewery provided refreshment by supplying the hiking group with cool drinks. "We are very pleased about the support from the Veltins brewery. Such partnerships are an important building block in offering participants an all-round successful experience," emphasizes Risse.
