Federal Association of German Central Uplands visits the Sauerland
Annual closed meeting at Bergkloster Bestwig is dedicated to current tourism topics
Alongside the North Sea, the Baltic Sea and the Alps, the German low mountain ranges are among the most popular destinations in Germany and attract millions of day trippers and holidaymakers for leisure activities in the great outdoors. At the invitation of Sauerland-Tourismus e.V., the members of the Bundesverband Deutsche Mittelgebirge (Federal Association of German Central Uplands) met for their annual meeting at Bergkloster Bestwig. The focus: professional exchange, new insights into the industry and mutual learning.
"Close networking among the destinations and a joint appearance of the low mountain ranges is of enormous importance for the targeted marketing of our offers," emphasizes Dr. Jürgen Fischbach, Managing Director of Sauerland Tourism. "We are therefore all the more pleased to be able to hold the closed conference here in the Sauerland this year and provide insights into our region, which can score points throughout Germany with innovative products and approaches."
A particular focus of this year's conference was on the increasingly important topic of artificial intelligence. In his keynote speech, Joachim Unteregger, Chief Innovation Officer at Saint Elmo's Tourismusmarketing, demonstrated the potential that its use already offers in tourism management and tourism marketing. Christian Stühring from Tourismus NRW and Dr. Jürgen Amann from Köln Tourismus provided further insights into the wide range of possible applications.
Of course, in addition to plenty of professional input and exchange between the players, there was also a varied supporting program to present the tourist highlights of "Germany's most inspiring outdoor region" and provide further examples of innovative approaches in the industry. For example, the participants went on a hiking tour along the Ramsbeck mining trail, followed by an "underground" visit to the Sauerland visitor mine.
An insight into the important industrial and economic factor of wood for the Sauerland was provided during the subsequent visit to the HOLZ Center in Olsberg, the business development center for companies operating in the forestry and wood sector. A visit to the striking Lörmecketurm tower as part of an off-road tour with the Berge-Bus then provided a practical example of the use of wood in the implementation of tourism projects.
The participants were also able to experience artificial intelligence in daily use during their visit to the Sauerland, as Lotte, a service robot at the Flair Hotel Nieder in Ostwig, supports the employees in their daily work. Many positive examples of a tourism region that is constantly developing and thinking innovatively.
