Bad Westernkotten
Listed buildings characterize the townscape of Bad Westernkotten. They give the market square its special charm: St. Laurentius Church, with its mighty tower, once called the "leading church of the Duchy of Westfalen". The Königshof, whose foundation can be traced back to Charlemagne. The Old Town Hall, formerly the Electorate of Cologne's court building. Nearby is the next sight, the picturesque castle grounds with the former ancestral and hunting lodge of the Counts of Landsberg. It's worth stopping, leaving the car behind and exploring the small alleyways of the town.
Fourteen villages, two nature reserves, one spa
Erwitte has 15 districts: 14 idyllic villages and a tranquil spa. Exploring them on a bike tour is fun. Cycle past meadows, fields and half-timbered houses and enjoy the atmosphere of the agricultural villages.
Technical monuments can be admired along the way: The water tower in Eikeloh, the windmill in Schmerlecke and the two imposing Gradierwerks in Bad Westernkotten. There are also two nature reserves and local recreation areas: The Pöppelsche near Erwitte and the Muckenbruch low moor area in Bad Westernkotten.

Erwitte's Bad Westernkotten district is a modern spa town. It has developed from the long salt history of the former salt village. The two Gradierwerke in the spa park are the landmarks of the brine and mud spa. Here you can breathe in the salty air and feel the living history. For example, the ancient art of salt boiling is regularly revived in the Schausiedehaus.
The charming spa gardens are a popular destination at any time of year. In spring and summer, it displays its floral splendour, then presents itself in golden autumn colors and sometimes it shows itself in a white winter dress. Its attractions include: the walk-in herb spiral, the barefoot path, the Kneipp facility, the low ropes course, the forest playground, the fitness trail and the mini golf course.
The Hellweg-Sole-Thermen thermal baths are located directly on the spa promenade, with over 700 square meters of water, a sauna area and a wellness area. In the swimming pools, those seeking relaxation can "swim free" from the stresses of everyday life in the 3 percent, approx. 33 degree warm brine. Bad Westernkotten offers a wide range of health services, warm hospitality and shopping pleasures in small stores.
