Hemer Ispei Stephanopler Tal Gateway to the Sauerland-Waldroute
Further information about the trail can be found at www.sauerland-waldroute.de. You can also order information material about the trail free of charge via www.sauerland.com.
The first gateway to the Sauerland-Waldroute - and therefore the starting point of the first stage - is located near Iserlohn's hiking train station. From Alexanderhöhe, the trail leads steadily uphill along the Rupenteich pond and the first legendary station "Ballotsbrunnen" towards the Danzturm, an old telegraph station. The ascent is rewarded with a wonderful panoramic view over the forest town before continuing through the Iserlohn city forest towards Hemer and the trail leads into the Stephanopel valley. Here the hiker encounters further legendary stations and immerses themselves in the mystical world of the Sauerland-Waldroute.
Return journey: From Ispei, bus 3 takes you back to Hemer. Bus 1 takes you from Hemer to the starting point of your hike: Iserlohn.

Information about the rescue signs on the Sauerland-Waldroute
Most hiking trails run away from towns and settlements and every hiker has thought about what would happen if an emergency were to occur. How can I be found here? Where am I anyway? Can the emergency services reach me?
In an emergency, things have to happen quickly! That's why the Sauerland-Waldroute is equipped with so-called rescue signs throughout. The green and white stickers attached to the posts of the signposts have a number that you must give when making an emergency call. This means that the emergency services know exactly where you are and valuable time can be saved.
