From Arnsberg railroad station, you take a feeder road onto the main path of the Sauerland-Waldroute. The path leads through the Altstadt and up the Schreppenberg into the forest. Past the Eselsbrücke bridge, the route continues steadily uphill to the small village of Breitenbruch, which emerged from a forest workers' settlement. The remaining kilometers of the trail open up a landscape full of nature worth protecting. The two adjacent nature reserves are home to many springs, a wide variety of animal species and habitats for all kinds of animals. Past the Grüne Hoffnung (Green Hope), the Hevesee with its exciting birdwatching stations can already be seen. The trail continues over a small sluice towards the Torhaus - the end point of the tour!
The Torhaus offers the opportunity to stop for refreshments and a stroll through the art garden is highly recommended afterwards.

Information about the rescue signs on the Sauerland-Waldroute
Most hiking trails run away from towns and settlements and every hiker has thought about what would happen if an emergency were to occur. How can I be found here? Where am I anyway? Can the emergency services reach me?
In an emergency, things have to happen quickly! That's why the Sauerland-Waldroute is equipped with so-called rescue signs throughout. The green and white stickers attached to the posts of the signposts have a number that you must give when making an emergency call. This means that the emergency services know exactly where you are and valuable time can be saved.

Getting to Arnsberg station:
The Obere Ruhrtalbahn connects Arnsberg to long-distance services via the regional express trains RE 17 (Sauerland Express) and RE 57 (Dortmund-Sauerland Express).
The RE 17 connects Arnsberg with the stations in Hagen (approx. 40 min) and Kassel (approx. 130 min). The RE 57 runs between Dortmund (approx. 40 min) and Winterberg (approx. 65 min) and offers connections to long-distance trains in Dortmund.
There are three stops in the Arnsberg urban area: Neheim-Hüsten, Arnsberg and Oeventrop, which are served every 30 minutes.
From the gatehouse at Möhnesee, the 548 minibus will take you back to Arnsberg station.
Getting there
The town of Arnsberg is directly connected to the A 44 at the Werl junction via the A 46 / A 445. From the Werl junction, you can reach the A1 and A2 in approx. 15 minutes.
