The small village of Medebach-Berge with its 140 inhabitants is an oasis of peace for many people in their everyday lives. In addition to the historic baroque church of St. John the Evangelist, there are two places of worship of the Virgin Mary in Berge in the form of the "Madonna de Fatima".
This barrier-free pilgrimage route also gives people with limited mobility the opportunity to experience Christian self-awareness on a pilgrimage route with manageable physical effort.
The pilgrimage route can be walked by individuals or in groups.
A pilgrim's book, a pilgrim's candle and holy water are available on the pilgrim's table in the church.
People can walk the barrier-free pilgrimage route independently. It is also possible to walk only part of the route, e.g. church-grotto.
We want this opportunity for self-discovery and inner reflection to be available to people in the region and tourists at any time when the church is open (April - October) and all year round.
The QR code plaques at each waypoint provide further information about the stations online.
The Homberg Pilgrims' Way leads along a paved path of approx. 350 meters from the church to the wayside shrine with the "Madonna de Fatima" on the edge of the Homberg forest. There is a gradient of approx. 8% to overcome on this route.Approx. 10 m above the wayside shrine is a vantage point with a magnificent view over the Waldeck mountains. The pilgrim then walks back to the church and can linger in peace in the church. After another 250 meters on a flat, asphalted road towards the end of Roninghausen, the pilgrim reaches the grotto. This grotto, built in a closed, semi-elliptical shape, shelters an original depiction of the "Madonna de Fatima".
