Heed forest activity trail

From the Heed hiking parking lot in southern Meinerzhagen, the Wald-Aktiv-Pfad (forest activity trail) extends as a circular route around the Heedberg. This regional hiking trail is characterized by its varied "forest discovery stations". These include, for example, a dendrophone, which allows visitors to experience the acoustic qualities of different tree and wood species, as well as a specially designed forest classroom. A special feature is the integrated viewing point with forest sofa, which allows for deep contemplation of the landscape and a comprehensive view. A detailed overview of the Wald-Aktiv-Pfad and its individual stations can be found on an information board at the starting point. A special app is also available, which generates location-based signals when approaching a station and then provides detailed, informative background information directly on mobile devices. There are other interesting hiking routes in the immediate vicinity, including the Bergische Panoramasteig and the Sauerland-Höhenflug circular trail. The Genkeltalsperre dam is also within easy walking distance. An additional hiking overview board at the parking lot provides orientation. Another remarkable feature along the trail is the witches' oak, a resting place with a captivating audio play station, which invites you to linger for a while.

The trails are mainly forest paths, which can be soggy and muddy in appropriate weather conditions.

First aid: In an emergency, call the emergency number 112 and quote the rescue point number. Rescue points are marked access points in the forest for rescue vehicles. If the nearest rescue point is not known, your location can be called up directly via AML (Advanced Mobile Location) during the emergency call.

If you have enough time, it is worth making a detour to the Genkeltalsperre. After successfully exploring the Wald-Aktiv-Pfad, it is worth stopping off at the Hotel-Restaurant "Zum Schnüffel", 3 kilometers away by car (Zum Schnüffel 10, Tel. 02354/2580).

You can reach Meinerzhagen with the RB25 from both Cologne and Lüdenscheid. There is only an irregular bus service to Heed; the walk from the train station to the Heed hiking parking lot is approx. 3.5 kilometers.

You can reach the Heed hiking parking lot, from where the tour begins, via the L323, which connects Meinerzhagen and Gummersbach-Derschlag; the village of Heed is signposted shortly after or before Meinerzhagen. Follow the road for a few hundred meters before you reach the Heed hiking parking lot on the left.
