The Callerbachtalsperre (Seilersee) was originally built to secure the water supply for the nearby sewage treatment plant.
Construction began in 1913 and was officially approved as a dam on June 10, 1914. The Seilersee is approximately 16 hectares in size and holds up to 500,000 m3 of water with a dam wall of 160 m in length.
The lake is of great importance to Iserlohn as a local recreation area.
Families with children and older people in particular use the walking paths around the Seilersee.
From the parking lot at the Seilersee restaurant, walk along the lake in the direction of the ice rink and from there continue over the new bridge behind the outdoor pool to the eastern end of the lake. Here you turn into the Reiterweg, which runs parallel to the allotment site. After a few hundred meters, you will pass under the freeway. From here, turn right along the highway. Always following the A2 markings, you walk almost constantly uphill through the forest to the Bismarckturm.
