From a mining history perspective, the mine in Nuttlar is one of the most fascinating remnants of a long-gone mining era in the Upper Ruhrtal, and it leaves a deep impression thanks to its pristine condition and the immersive experience it offers. You won’t find gravel paths, concrete steps, or electric lighting here. The guided tours take visitors past underground lakes and massive chambers, up slate staircases, and through high tunnels. On site, mining techniques are explained, and the splitting and shaping of slate are vividly demonstrated using original tools.
