A Unique Panoramic View of the Möhnetal
The Skywalk Möhnetal steel structure juts out 30 meters beyond the Liethsteil slope, offering—
—a unique panoramic view across the Möhnetal all the way to the Arnsberg Forest and, on the return trip, over the farmland of the Soester Börde. Here, over the course of millennia, the Möhne River has shaped the unique 78-meter-long steep slope at the European ecological boundary between the Northwestern European lowlands and the Central European mountainous region.
The LEADER project “3 Landscape Experience Worlds of the Möhnetal” (3 Landscape Experience Worlds of the Möhne Valley) provides basic knowledge of the landscape and local history regarding the farmland, Möhne River, and forest landscapes, which converge on a small scale and with striking contrasts between Allagen and Niederbergheim.
The stories of these landscapes—covering geology, animal and plant species, and agricultural and forestry practices
—both past and present, are presented and compared in a concise manner.
Getting to the Möhnetal Skywalk:
The Allagen/Niederbergheim Village Initiative, Inc. invites all residents who are still able to walk well to hike to the Möhnetal Skywalk. The parking lot at the Skywalk, which has limited space, is reserved for older residents and those with mobility impairments. The parking lot is accessible exclusively via Udenstraße in Allagen-Westendorf. The exit is also via the same route.
The Village Initiative expressly points out that neither driving nor parking is permitted in the Ölmannsberg area in Niederbergheim or on the dirt roads leading to the Skywalk.
For now, the parking lots available for hikers heading to the Skywalk are the Niederbergheim Hof parking lot (GPS: Warstein-Möhnestraße 484) and parking spaces at the cemetery (GPS: Warstein-Friedhofsweg) and on Möhnestraße in Allagen (corner of Dorfstraße—see map; GPS: Möhnestraße between 350 and 360 Warstein) will initially be made available as hiking parking lots for the Skywalk.
The Skywalk is a 15- to 20-minute walk from these parking lots.
