Idyllic and tranquil, the legendary Klusenstein Castle stands high above the Hönnetal and opposite the rocky backdrop of the "Seven Virgins". It is said that a knight once lived in the castle, who was admired by everyone in the valley. There were also seven maidens who sought his favor, but were all turned down. They asked the mysterious charcoal-burner's wife for advice. But her tips did not help, the knight remained dismissive. So the charcoal-burner's wife resorted to harsher means. She gave the seven virgins a powder of which they were to take a knife point full every day - but no more, otherwise there would be a disaster. The virgins took the pinch of powder, but it had no effect on the unapproachable knight. So the young ladies increased the dose and swallowed a whole spoonful of the powder. Misfortune took its course. One day, as the seven virgins stood on the banks of the Hönne and reflected in their beauty, they began to grow and gain weight until they solidified into huge limestone rocks. The "Seven Virgins" still stand in the Hönnetal today.
At the Felsglotze, located directly opposite the Sauerland-Waldroute, hikers can also find out about the "true" story of how the seven virgins came to be.
