For almost 200 years, a tower has been rising into the sky on the crest of the Ebbegebirge (663 m).
Emperor Napoleon had the first stone tower built at the beginning of the 19th century in order to spread news and orders as quickly as possible using the mirror telegraph. The desire to be able to look out over the mountains of the Sauerland from Nordhelle was met by the erection of a trigonometric mast in 1890 in the form of a stable wooden frame made of strong beams.
In December 1904, the wooden structure, some parts of which had become rotten, fell victim to the autumn storms. The foundation stone for a new tower on Nordhelle was laid on September 8, 1912. The tower was named after the SGV's main trail warden Robert Kolb, the initiator of the first major hiking trail network.
