The Rivius-Gymnasium of the town of Attendorn is a grammar school in the tradition of a humanist school of the 16th century and a grammar school Marianum Seraphicum run by Franciscans in the 17th/18th century. After the school was abolished at the beginning of the 19th century, it was re-established as a municipal progymnasium in 1825. This developed into a full grammar school by 1875. The school is named after the humanist pedagogue Johannes Rivius.
