Refuge Millionenbank

The Millionenbank - today a refuge at 632m above sea level - owes its name to the hyperinflation after the First World War. A beech tree is said to have been felled here in 1923. It was worth millions - but these were not worth the paper they were printed on. So the felled beech was turned into a bench in no time at all.
The 4th stage of the Rothaarsteig, the 155 km long-distance hiking trail that runs from Brilon to Dillenburg, runs past the refuge.
For cross-country skiing fans, the Millionenloipe cross-country ski trail is ideal for sporting activities in winter.
