Nordhelle - hiking on the Ebbek ridge
The Ebbek ridge is one of the most striking mountain ranges in the nature park. It has a cool, damp climate with high rainfall. As a result, spring and hillside moors as well as moor and swamp forests have developed on the southern slopes. The lowland moors are home to very rare plants such as bogbean, sundew and cranberry. These moors are so unique that the area has been designated a nature reserve of European importance. The entire protected area covers almost 1,000 hectares.
At 663 m above sea level, the Nordhelle is the highest elevation in the Ebbegebirge. In addition to the Robert Kolb Tower of the Sauerland Mountain Association (SGV), the broadcasting towers of Westdeutscher Rundfunk are also located here.
The hiking parking lot is the starting point of the family-friendly circular trail "Rund um den Waldberg" or the circular trail"Ebbemoore".
