This centuries-old Marian pilgrimage site, with its late-medieval image of grace—an expressive Pietà—gave its name to this area and the former municipality long ago. Anyone who leaves the main street and includes a visit to the church “Our Lady on the Mountain” in their itinerary will be richly rewarded in many ways.

While the sturdy, late-Gothic structure, reinforced with buttresses and seemingly having sprung up from the ground, does not particularly impress from the outside due to its simplicity, those who step inside will be left speechless by the unexpected sight within the church.
The Sasse family of artists from the Sauerland region (from Attendorn), guided by the vision of the then-pastor Paulus Leyemann (1693–1745), imbued the church interior with the Baroque splendor and expressiveness that fully befits the dignity and standards of a pilgrimage church—a replica of the heavenly Jerusalem.

Here, even the poor once had access. Here, they gazed upon a foreshadowing of heaven, which ultimately sought to promise and guarantee them justice and divine riches.

The pilgrimage church is a Sauerland-Seelenort.
