Joachim Knorra conjures up sparkling works of art of timeless fascination. They are only transient under the influence of sun and heat. The ice-cold beauties are well protected in what is probably the smallest ice museum in Germany. Hallenberg's ice house was used until the 1960s to store ice, which was extracted from local streams in the winter months and used to cool drinks at festivals and in restaurants in the summer.
The door of the ice house is open to interested visitors every 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month from 15:00-17:00. Ice artist Joachim Knorra, who created the various ice sculptures, will also be present on these dates to explain everything and answer any further questions about ice.
On request, smaller groups can also arrange a viewing appointment outside of opening hours by calling the Tourist Information Office in Hallenberg on 02984-8203 or Joachim Knorra on 02984-2415. If you would like to try your hand at ice carving, you can also book an ice carving seminar by calling the above telephone numbers.
We look forward to welcoming you to the Hallenberg ice house soon.
