Hof Haulle

Located between Kolk and Rosenau, Hof Haulle has stood here for over 600 years. Farmsteads like this one were not uncommon in Sassendorf, but of the many that once existed, only the Hof Haulle has survived. It has also been expertly restored, allowing it to remain in use to this day.

The Hof Haulle was known to the residents of Sassendorf in the 15th–17th centuries as the “Großer Mariengarten zu Sassendorf” (Great Marian Garden of Sassendorf), a name attested in written sources dating from the period of warfare during the Soest Feud, the Thirty Years’ War, and the Seven Years’ War. It is nothing short of a miracle that the “Mariengarten” withstood the ravages of war and the blows of fate and has survived the centuries in good condition.

The former “Mariengarten,” now known as Hof Haulle, became the residence of the vom Dahll family, who were members of the Erbsälzer clan. Over time, the property was leased to other families, who also used the farm for economic purposes. In the mid-19th century, serfdom was abolished, and the farm tenants at that time were able to purchase the property themselves and become its owners. In the 20th century, the Kühle-Haulle family applied for the official designation of the name “Haulle,” which has been retained to this day.

Since 2012, the old farm has housed the “Kulturscheune” (Culture Barn), and since 2015, the farm building has served as an exhibition hall for the “Westfalen Salzwelten” interactive museum.
