It consisted of three large and two small city gates and several round towers. Today, only the remains of the city wall in Weierhohl—including the Hexenturm (Witches’ Tower) and the Engelsturm (Angels’ Tower)—still stand. The 14th-century Hexenturm is the oldest surviving secular building in the city. The name might allude to the witch hunts, during which it may have served as a prison. However, there is no evidence to support this. Dr. Manfred Schöne, a local historian from Olpe, believed that the name derives from “Hessenturm.”
In addition, the memorial designed by Ewald Mataré—dedicated to the memory of the victims of war and serving as a reminder to the living—has stood below the city wall since 1963, and the Brack Monument has been there since 1996.
