Goats are smart, curious, and extremely sociable—qualities that make them wonderful hiking companions. If you’re looking for a special getaway in nature, don’t miss the guided goat tours offered by Ziege2go in Schalksmühle. Marzena and Christian, the two founders, keep a small herd of five to six goats, including the endangered Tauernschecke breed. They are deeply committed to preserving this breed and, in doing so, show just how soothing contact with these animals can be.

The tours start in the wooded area around Schalksmühle and, depending on your preference, can cover a shorter route of about an hour or a longer route lasting around two hours. During the hike, the goats explore their surroundings with energy and playfulness—but always stay close to the herd. Both children and adults get up close to these trusting animals and are even allowed to pet them. The highlight of every tour is particularly popular: feeding the goats together, which creates even more heartfelt moments of connection between animals and people.
