Gillerturm

The steel tower was built in 1892 and, as far as we know at present, was inaugurated on August 7, 1892. Its viewing platform is 15 m above the ground.

The Gillerberg Tower, which is located directly on the famous Rothaarsteig and Siegerland-Höhenring hiking trails on the 653 m high Giller in Lützel, doesn't really show its age. The reason for this is an extensive renovation completed in mid-August 2014. The entire steel structure had to be freed from the rust that had formed in the meantime. In addition, design changes were made to improve safety. Both viewing platforms are now equipped with a new safety railing that complies with current regulations. The knee-high side guards of the spiral staircase also had to be replaced. Last but not least, the panorama board mounted on the upper viewing platform was refurbished so that all the information provided here is once again very easy to read. Subsequent priming and a double top coat of paint have since restored the tower to its former glory.

As the observation tower has been a listed building since 1992, all of these measures had to be coordinated with the monument authority.

The total cost of 58,000 euros could only be raised by the SGV Hilchenbach section, which owns the lookout tower, with the help of numerous donations and grants.

A climb up the Gillerturm is particularly worthwhile when the visibility is good, as the view is indescribably beautiful.

Hikers on the Rothaarsteig can find the tower directly on the hiking trail; a picnic seating area rounds off the visit to the Gillerturm.
