Genkeltalsperre
Genkel
58540 Meinerzhagen
The Genkeltalsperre is mainly fed by the Genkel and Grotmicke tributaries, which together ensure the region's drinking water supply. As a pure drinking water reservoir, water sports are not permitted and access to the shore area is prohibited.
Nevertheless, the reservoir, which covers around 64 hectares and has a capacity of around 8.2 million cubic meters, is a popular excursion destination. Two well-developed circular trails of around 10 kilometers and 14 kilometers circle the lake and are ideal for hiking, jogging and cycling. The paths are farm tracks and trails, most of which are flat.
A water nature trail was set up in 2003 to mark the 50th anniversary of the dam. Several information boards provide interesting facts about drinking water extraction, the function of the dam and the surrounding natural areas. Sections of the Bergischer Panoramasteig and the "Wasser-Weitblick-Pfad" Sauerland-Höhenflug circular trail also run alongside the dam.
The historic Gut Listringhausen estate is located near the reservoir. The former knight's seat was first mentioned in 1621 and was owned by Friedrich von Neuhoff, who later also owned the nearby Badinghagen Castle. The estate is still privately owned today and can therefore only be viewed from the outside. The ensemble includes several buildings and a small park.
