For about 850 years, the Bredelar Monastery has shaped the town. At first, it was a convent for nuns, then a monastery for monks. This was followed by an ironworks and many different industrial uses. Today, part of the complex houses a sociocultural community center that hosts many private and public events. The Kunstraum Sauerland also delights visitors with its rotating exhibitions. The monastery also houses branch offices of the registry office and the adult education center, as well as a small museum. On a guided tour, you’ll learn fascinating facts about the building, its renovations and additions, monastic life, the industrial era, and its current use.
Public guided tours take place every first Sunday of the month.
