As there was no rescue station in south-east Westfalen to care for injured birds of prey and owls in need of help, Wilfried Limpinsel founded a rescue station for birds of prey and owls in Marsberg-Essentho in 1980 with the approval of the relevant authorities (environmental agency and district government) and with the support of the NRW State Institute for Ecology, Land Management and Forestry (LÖBF).
The release station (bird care station) in Marsberg-Essentho has been successfully operated for 25 years. The number of birds in need of help, which are cared for and released back into the wild here, is constantly increasing. So far, over 2000 animals have been delivered.
This includes a wide range of species, from kestrels to migrating ospreys, from reintroduced eagle owls to tawny owls.
