The Woeste is a nature reserve and is located in the lowlands of the Ahse near Bettinghausen. It is a very nutrient and nitrogen-rich fen. The Woeste provides an important habitat for rare animal species, including teal, gadwall, pintail, garganey and shoveler, pochards and water rails, Montagu's harriers, hen harriers, tree falcons, snipe and lapwings.
