Balver Höhle - Europe's largest cultural cave

The Balver Höhle is not only the largest open hall cave, but also one of the most important archaeological sites of the Middle Palaeolithic cultures in Europe thanks to the well-researched archaeological finds. Exhibits from Balver Höhle can be found not only in the Museum of Pre- and Early History of the town of Balve in Balve-Wocklum, but also in nationally important museums such as the Westfalen Museum of Archaeology in Herne and the Museum of Pre- and Early History in Wasserschloß Werdringen in Hagen.

Neanderthals, mammoths, cave bears and co. used the cave as a natural shelter in earlier times. Nowadays, the up to 11 m high, 18 m wide and almost 90 m deep natural event space delights fans of cultural performances far beyond Germany's borders. Depending on the type of event, more than 2,000 visitors can be accommodated in the cave and enjoy the extraordinary ambience and unique acoustics. Whether rock, pop, classical music, musicals, Irish folk, plays for the whole family or the famous Balver Schützenfest - the Balver Höhle offers a wide range of cultural events that leave nothing to be desired.
