Accessible Fishing Spot at Möhnesee

On March 25, 2025, the new accessible fishing spot at Lake Möhnesee was inaugurated. The project, which was supported by many stakeholders, represents a significant step forward in terms of inclusion and accessibility for people with disabilities. The Ruhrverband and the municipality of Möhnesee have jointly taken an important step toward making nature and recreational activities more accessible.

The accessible fishing spot, which covers an area of 6.00 m x 5.00 meters, is specifically designed to provide wheelchair users with a pleasant and safe fishing experience. Up to four people can fish at the same time, and an innovative railing allows for the comfortable and safe handling of both the fishing rod and the landing net. The fishing spot’s location, right next to a public parking lot with free parking spaces for people with disabilities, ensures barrier-free access.

The project received financial support from the LEADER program of the Lippe-Möhnesee region. This support is a clear sign of the importance of accessibility and participation in recreational activities for all people, regardless of their individual abilities.
