The perfect bike tour with the Fietsknoop app
Touring cycling in the Sauerland can be so varied and individual
With the enormous e-bike boom, touring cycling has picked up speed once again in the Sauerland. Especially as "Germany's inspiring outdoor region" attracts day-trippers and holidaymakers from near and far to take a break in nature with a whole range of exciting river and railroad cycle paths. The "Fietsknoop" app in combination with the "Cycling by numbers" concept promises an even more carefree touring cycling experience.
"Cycling by numbers" is a cycle route system established throughout Germany that allows cyclists to plan and navigate a route using numbered junctions. "At these junctions, there are signs with numbers indicating the direction you need to take to get to the next point," explains Lajana Hebbecker, Cycling Theme Manager at Sauerland Tourism.
"This gives touring cyclists the opportunity to plan individual cycle tours according to their wishes here in the Sauerland, as they can decide for themselves which points they want to cycle to and how long or challenging a tour should be." The practical hub network extends across the districts of Soest and Olpe, the Hochsauerlandkreis and Märkischer Kreis as well as the Siegen-Wittgenstein district, thus covering the entire Südwestfalen region.
And the practical "Fietsknoop" app comes into play so that planning can be easily started from a smartphone on the go or at home. Developed in the Netherlands, where the junction system was invented, the complete Südwestfalen cycle network is now also available.
And it's child's play to use: simply tap the desired junctions on the display and the app creates an individual route plan, which can then be saved. During the journey, the app also serves as a navigation device, always showing the correct route and informing you when the next junction is reached. Fietsknoop" is available for Android and iOS in the most popular app stores.
