Quality of life & tourism in the Sauerland

Sauerland tourism survey: This is the level of acceptance of tourism in the region

How important is tourism to the people of the Sauerland? What impact does it have on their quality of life? How does the local population perceive tourism? - Sauerland Tourism wants to investigate these exciting questions as part of a tourism acceptance study. From August 21 to October 13, all Sauerland residents are therefore invited to take part in the online survey.

"Our goal as a DMO is not only to make the Sauerland an experience worth living in for our guests from outside, but above all for the citizens of the region," emphasizes Dr. Jürgen Fischbach, Managing Director of Sauerland Tourism. After all, tourism in the Sauerland is a central pillar of the economy. However, the region with its picturesque landscape, diverse leisure opportunities and nationally significant sights not only attracts millions of day trippers and holidaymakers every year, but also offers a great quality of life for young and old.

"We want to understand how the people of Sauerland experience tourism, what opportunities and challenges they see and what measures they consider important for a harmonious interaction between tourism and the local population," Fischbach continues. The aim is also to further develop tourism in harmony with the local population. This is an important factor in raising awareness of tourism as an economic sector and demonstrating the impact the industry has on the quality of life of the local population.

The results of the tourism acceptance study, which is now being launched, will serve as the basis for this; all people aged 18 and over who live in the Sauerland are eligible to take part. The survey will take around 15 minutes to complete. All participants will be entered into a draw to win lucrative prizes such as an overnight stay in a "Sterne im Sauerland" hotel including dinner or surprise packages from the Veltins brewery. The results of the study are expected at the beginning of 2025 and will be published in a public report. Based on the results, Sauerland Tourism will work with local decision-makers and partners to develop measures to make tourism in the Sauerland sustainable and further improve the quality of life of its residents.
