Our hike begins at the town hall square. The first hiking sign for the "Lippeauenweg" L1 is located on a tree in front of the children's carousel. We walk past St. Mary's Church across the market square towards the town museum. From there we turn right into "Marktstraße", cross "Cappelstraße" and come to "Stiftsstraße", turn left into "David-Gans-Straße" and after approx. 30 m turn right into "Stiftsfreiheit". At the end of the street, we can turn right onto the abbey grounds to visit the abbey ruins. From "Stiftsfreiheit" we turn right into "Soeststraße", cross the Lippe bridge and continue along "Bückeburger Straße" to the bridge over the river "Umflut". After the bridge, we turn left, keep left and come to a footpath that runs parallel to the Lippe. We follow the path until we reach a pedestrian bridge. We cross this and reach the "Hellinghäuser Weg". We turn right in a westerly direction, see the street "Am Nahtfeld" on the left and turn right before a bridge onto a footpath in the direction of the church. At the end of the path, there is an observation tower on the right from which we can see the flora and fauna of the "Hellinghäuser Mersch". In the immediate vicinity is the church of St. Clemens, which houses the "Stone Bread". The path continues along the "Gieseler" stream back to the main road "Hellinghäuser Weg", where we turn left towards Lippstadt. After approx. 700m, we cross the "Hellinghäuser Weg" and come to the road "Im Nahtfeld", which we take in the direction of Overhagen. Before the railroad underpass, we turn left onto the path "Zur Ausschacht", which runs parallel to the Hamm-Kassel railroad line. At the end of the path, we reach a railroad underpass on the right, which we pass. After the railroad underpass, we take a sharp left onto a footpath that again runs parallel to the railroad and walk for approx. 500m until we come to another very low railroad underpass on the left. We walk through the underpass and turn right into "Tonhüttenweg", which we follow in an easterly direction for approx. 500m. We reach a turning hammer, then turn left and cross "Stirper Straße" at the pedestrian lights, walk past the Dreifaltigkeitshospital into "Klosterstraße". Immediately after the Dreifaltigkeitshospital, the "Sankt Annen Rosengarten" is on the left behind a quarry stone wall, where we can see the foundation walls of a monastery. On the right is the mighty Nikolaikirche church. We now cross "Cappelstraße" and reach "Kahlenstraße", turn left into "I. Pfad". At the end, we turn left into "Fleischhauerstraße" and after approx. 50 m turn right into "Dunklen Pfad", cross "Poststraße" and walk straight ahead into "Helle Halle". At the end, the Marienkirche church and our starting point, the Rathausplatz, await us.
