You can literally breathe in history when you stand among the earthen ramparts and excavations on the Borberg.
“Mystical”—that’s the word that immediately comes to mind when you immerse yourself in this world. This is where the Germanic tribes once built a ring wall to defend against the Celts, where a church was erected in the 13th century —of which only the foundation walls remain—and where an early medieval cemetery provided a final resting place for the local residents.
Today, the Borberg Chapel, built in 1925, stands at the highest point. This historic site within the city limits is located southeast of the town of Brilon, not far from the Hiebammenhütte.
As the trail continues toward St. Antonius, you can enjoy fascinating views of Elleringhausen, Bruchhausen, and the Bruchhauser Steine.
The route can also be extended, starting and ending at Brilon’s market square. In that case, the distance increases to 12.5 km. The route is marked throughout with the B1.
The route starts at the Hilbringse hiking parking lot on the Brilon Kammweg and the Rothaarsteig towards Borberg on the Rothaarsteig and the Brilon Kammweg. Parallel to the gravel path, you reach the Borberg via paths. After walking around the Borberg with its excavations, chapel and hut, you pass the large wooden cross and return to the rest of the trail. After the wayside shrine of St. Anthony, the path turns left back towards the hiking parking lot.If you prefer a longer route, you can start from the Brilon market square and walk past the bus stops in Strackestraße until shortly after the small traffic circle the first signpost with the B1 marking points left. Then continue straight ahead for approx. 3 km until you reach the hikers' parking lot.

The view behind the chapel is not to be missed.
