The northern Küntrop circular trail leads around the Küntrop mountain in 11.2 km. This trail is characterized by views, natural paths and refreshment stops.

The best place to start the circular tour is at the motte, in an anti-clockwise direction. You can visit the motte, which is a wooden tower hilltop castle. Please check the opening times. First you walk along an asphalted hollow path and pass close to the site where a wooden castle, the Gevener Burg, once stood. You can still clearly see the moat.

After the Küntrop train station, cross the K12 district road and walk uphill. You can often watch airplanes take off and land at the nearby airfield on this section of the trail. How about a sightseeing flight?

You walk along a small stream and later along the edge of the forest to Höveringhausen to an idyllically situated stud farm. Beautiful views are guaranteed here. Continuing uphill, you circle the Küntrop mountain.

You then pass the Wollehütte refuge on the way downhill. Jokingly designated as a bus stop, you will probably have to wait a long time for a bus here. Continue downhill through meadows and fields until you reach the K12 district road again.

From there, you return to the starting point via asphalt paths. In between, you can stop off at a café or snack bar in the DIY store or at the Mythos-Grill in Küntrop (note opening times) and return to the starting point.

Directions

For public transport users, there are many starting points for the K1. For car drivers, the parking lot at the Küntrop Schützenhalle and the Motte is the ideal starting point. The Motte - tower hill fort - was built near the Schützenhalle. It can be visited and even wedding ceremonies are offered here. From the parking lot, turn right and then right at the next junction down a paved hollow path. We pass the site where Gevern Castle once stood. At the end of the road, we turn right, cross the Hönnetal railroad tracks and the K12. We then climb up a tarmac path between meadows. The Küntrop airfield is on our right, so we can watch sports planes take off and land.Continuing along the edge of the forest, we have a good view of Neuenrade and Küntrop. We turn right and after a few meters turn right again and walk along a stream in the direction of Höveringhausen. We turn left and walk along the edge of the forest with great views until we climb up a path on the left just before Höveringhausen and shortly afterwards turn left again past a stud farm into the forest. We circle the Küntroper Berg and turn left back towards Küntrop. Downhill, we pass a refuge - the Wollehütte. Jokingly designated as a bus stop, we will probably have to wait a long time for a bus here. We continue downhill through meadows until we come to the K12. Here we turn right and walk along the cycle path to the crossroads. From there we climb up the Hüttenweg. We pass the Arens & Hilgert DIY store, where we can stop and rest at Lehmann Catering or Cafe Grote. Above the DIY store, we return to Küntrop on an asphalt road. At the end of the road, we turn right into Garbeck Straße. We can stop for refreshments at the Mythos-Grill. We pass the Küntrop hiking sign, walk along the sidewalk next to the B229 until we turn left onto Auf der Wohert and reach the parking lot via Gevener Weg.
