The Old Soest Trail runs for around 12 kilometers from the beautiful Möhnesee lake (junction 70+66), across open wild land, past dense woodland scenery through the idyllic Kleiberg nature reserve (junction 96) on mainly gravel paths, to the historic old town of Soest (junction 47+48) or vice versa.

Along the route from Haar to Soest, there are always fantastic views of the silhouette of the old Hanseatic city and over large parts of the Westphalian bay.

The route through the 230-hectare former military site between Büecke and Hiddingsen is particularly scenic. The area has since been included in the international protected area system of the "Natura 2000" network, and the lush nature has completely reclaimed the former military training area.
Today, the "Kleiberg nature reserve" resembles a relic of pre-industrial agriculture in the Soest Börde: Semi-wild horses, Heck cattle and flocks of sheep keep the landscape open as grazing animals. 700,000 euros in funding was invested in the development of this nature experience. The raised viewing platforms invite you to linger and observe - little cyclists will have a great time here, especially in spring when the flock of sheep is rearing its young.
