The playground on the Burgberg is called "Wulfsegge" because wolves are said to have lived here in the past. The central piece of play equipment is a large wolf on which children can climb and slide. It protects the Altena count and countess enthroned behind it. The two wooden horses in front of it invite children to ride them. They represent two Arnsberg knights attacking the castle on horseback. The children slip into the role of the knights, the count and the countess. They engage actively and playfully with a regional legend.. According to the legend of the founding of Burg Altena, it was "al te na" in the sense of "all too close" to the Count of Arnsberg.
The playground can be reached via the circular path around Burg Altena. There are no parking spaces directly at the castle. Recommendation: Parking lot "Langer Kamp" and walk to the castle or take the adventure elevator.
