Brownstone was mined in Battenberg in the 19th century. The mine contains a vein of manganese dioxide that has been rediscovered in recent years.
The mine is open from May to September on the first Sunday of every month from 2 to 4 pm. The last guided tour starts at 3.30 pm.
In addition to fixed visitor days, the association offers special tours by appointment. A highlight for children are "work assignments", which can be booked.
You can also visit the duck pond. The nearby barbecue hut is also available by arrangement for celebrations and events.
These facilities are managed by the Heimat- und Kulturverein Battenberg (Eder) e.V.
