The Störmede manorial estate looks back on an eventful history.
The original 12th-century structure—the castle of Werno von Störmede—was, however, located on what is now the church square. A descendant of the nobleman relocated the castle grounds to their current site. According to history, he converted his ancestor’s castle chapel into a private church.
In the 14th century, a new building was constructed by the Lords of Hörde, who succeeded the Störmede line. Fires and decay altered the structure’s appearance over time.
The structure was divided into two separate buildings: the “Old House” and the “High House.” In addition, there was a “Middle House,” which served as an architectural feature. It was Alhard von Hörde who, in the 17th century, removed much of the old structure and oversaw the construction of the current complex.
Until the second half of the 20th century, the estate served as a noble residence; today, the manor is a premier venue for conferences and private gatherings of all kinds.
