Things to Do Around the “Piener Kopf”
The “Piener Kopf” hiking parking lot is the starting point for numerous hikes around the Versetalsperre. This is where a beautiful loop hike begins, leading through Nierderholte and Gasmert, with the option of following the ridgelines above the Versetalsperre or walking along the reservoir’s shore. The “Nümmert,” a hilltop at an elevation of 585 m above sea level, is also a popular hiking destination, as the trails pass through numerous high moors worthy of conservation. In the spring, be sure to visit the “Herveler Bruch” south of the “Piener Kopf.” Protected as a natural monument since 1938, thousands of snowdrops cover the small forest with a white carpet. The snowdrop, also known as the spring snowflake or large snowbell, is one of the very earliest flowering plants, with its bell-shaped white blossoms. Depending on the location and weather conditions, flowering can begin as early as February.
