Woeste nature trail The approx. 5 km long circular trail leads through the small Woeste fen, located between the confluence of the Ahse and Woestebach rivers north of Bad Sassendorf (between the districts of Bettinghausen and Ostinghausen).
It is one of the last remaining remnants of fen in the region. The varied mosaic of shallow water and flood zones with ponds, reedbeds and wet grassland has developed into an important habitat for animals and plants, a magnet for birds in particular.
The approximately 50-hectare area is one of the last remaining calcareous fens in the region. The observation point and the observation tower allow good observations of the birdlife and the impressive water buffalo that keep the area open.
Information boards along the way - some especially for children - provide information about the flora and fauna in the Woeste.
Route: Kirchplatz Ostinghausen - around the Woeste nature reserve - Bürgerhaus Ostinghausen/Kirchplatz Ostinghausen
Discovery points: Church of St. Christophorus, Beobachtungssturm Woeste, Beobachtungspunkt Woeste
Difficulty level: Easy family-friendly hike, but not all on asphalt paths
