Jesus-Christus-Kirche

The history of the church goes back a long way: Meinerzhagen was first mentioned as a parish in 1174. The current church building dates mainly from the first half of the 13th century and is designed as a Romanesque gallery basilica. It is the only example of this type of building in the Märkischer Kreis and is therefore of particular cultural and historical significance.
In the 15th century, the choir was redesigned in the German late Gothic style, while the striking west tower was only added in the 19th century. These construction phases give the church its multi-layered architectural appearance.
The octagonal baptismal font in the apse, which is supported by medieval pillars, is particularly worth seeing and is one of the church's most important furnishings. Originally, the church was dedicated to the Virgin Mary and was named "Our Lady".
Today, the Jesus-Christus-Kirche is not only a place of faith, but also a cultural meeting place. In addition to church services, concerts and special events are regularly held here. As a stamping point for the Sauerland-Camino, it is also open to pilgrims who want to take a break along the way or add to their pilgrim's pass.
Sunday: Service at 10:30 am in the church
Wednesday: Morning service at 9:30 am in the parish hall opposite
