The Felsenmeer Hemer Nature Park Information Center is housed in the municipal tourist information office and is located directly between the Sauerlandpark Hemer, the Felsenmeer with the Heinrichshöhle and the Apricke nature conservation project.
For the nature park information center, this is a location that can be seen from afar thanks to the Jübergturm as a distinguishing feature. Visitors to the nature park who are interested in nature and culture can use it as a starting point for inspiration and orientation and the information center offers interesting brochures as well as personal advice on activities in the nature park. The area around the information center has been modernized and now also offers lockers for e-bike batteries as well as the popular rotating benches for a short rest.
There is a large, free parking lot right next to the information center, which is also ideal for exploring the Felsenmeer - our local jewel of the nature park. Formed around 380 million years ago, it is one of the oldest ore mining areas in North Rhine-Westphalia and has been in use for almost 1000 years.
Visitors will also find the former Apricke military training area here, a barrier-free natural paradise that is second to none and is home to many animals such as Heck cattle, Dülmen wild horses, goats and sheep. These farm animals maintain the rough grassland habitat for many wild species (insects, birds, reptiles, bats, etc.). The birdlife here is particularly popular, with rare species such as the meadow pipit and the bird of the year 2023, the whinchat.
