Disselmersch Nature Reserve Observation Hut in the Lippeaue

Here, in the heart of the Lippeaue west of Lippborg, you can experience the dynamics of a floodplain firsthand. The vast grasslands and bodies of water are completely submerged during high water. When the water level drops, the standing waters and wet depressions remain a magnet for numerous bird species. During migration seasons—from March through May and August through October—the area is teeming with wildlife. Ducks and geese gather here alongside various species of wading birds. In the spring, you can watch lapwings and northern shovelers during their courtship displays. Since 2010, a pair of white storks has been nesting on a pole near the observation hut. The mates greet each other at the Horst with loud clattering. On balmy summer nights, you can also hear tree frogs here.
