Church in Küstelberg
Winterberger Str. 3
59964 Medebach
A convent was founded on this site in 1152. After around 150 years, however, the nuns moved to Glindfeld near Medebach due to the harsh weather conditions. For many hundreds of years, Küstelberg was of great importance as a place of pilgrimage to the Virgin Mary.
In the middle of the 18th century, the Marienkirche, which was almost destroyed in the Thirty Years' War, was replaced by a new chapel. This served the parish as a place of worship until 1885, when it gave way to a new Laurentius Chapel, which still forms the western part of the church today.
the modern, hexagonal, bright extension with the beautiful, large church window was built in 1973. Stones from the old monastery were integrated into the extension as design elements.
There is also a stamping station for the Heidenstraße pilgrimage route.
