The original size of the inner castle is unknown, but it must have been at least three times the size of the area preserved today. The inner castle was enclosed by a two-meter-wide curtain wall. In front of it lay a 14-meter-wide moat carved into the rock. The structures inside, connected to the curtain wall, are farm buildings and towers that have been rebuilt several times and were not erected until the second half of the 12th century.
The excavated walls were reinforced, partially restored, and left in their current state, even though this results in walls appearing side by side that did not originally exist at the same time.
